Webmission – I can haz succezz

May 21st, 2010 by Sam Piroton No comments »

Although our 2010 webmission is not over yet (and we’ll talk about this year-team next), 2 alumni’s have received great coverage these last couple of days.

Xavier DammanPublitweet – has been in touch lately with Robert Scoble, one of the key bloggers in the valley. Robert uses Publitweet on his blog. Xavier and his associate have been interviewed for Building 43; here’s the vid.

Laurent Eschenauer, who launched the webmission last year, is now actively promoting is new baby OneSocialweb. What’s this? The idea is to try to federate social networks. Right now, if i’m on Facebook, and you are on Netlog or Hyves, we can’t get in touch, unless i register on these networks. That’s redundant, time consuming, and so… closed. What if thoses networks were interconnected? If they could exchange data? If my identity was recognized on all networks? That’s what Laurent is trying to do, with a bunch of other people. After promoting it in Europe, Laurent participated in some events here in the Valley aswell, and has received great press coverage. NPR (National Public Radio), ABCNews, Wall Street Journal and… Scoble himself too. That vid is not up yet, but it will be online soon.

So, as you can see, Belgians are doing great stuff, building out of their experience. Let’s try to keep this alive, and develop it together! Join the webmission spirit by following us here, on twitter or on our facebook page!

Google IO is over – TV and Android 2.2

May 21st, 2010 by Sam Piroton No comments »

Google IO has just closed its door. 2010 was great again, with a really revamped Android, Froyo. Faster, with Flash support, sync between computer and devices; just a few examples. Oh, by the way, let’s say that Google will compete with Itunes in the near future. Listen is already there, music is coming soon!

Then, as we said last night, Google announced Google Tv. Although the keynote was a bit buggy (too many wireless devices in the room), it brings a completely new experience of content consumption. Imagine you sit in your sofa, with friends or family members. You want to show them your pics; have fun with youtube, look at a livestreamed press conference, listen to online radio or podcasts; this is just what Google Tv will allow.

What’s Google Tv? Just a couple of devices you add between your TV and your cable/satellite company box. In Belgium, it would be Voo/Belgacom/Telenet to GoogleTv box, and then to your TV.

The way it’s integrated, the complete experience is really interesting. But i don’t see it happen in the very near future in Belgium. Because for it to work at its best, it need a real integration with your cable provider. And i fear we are too small a market to see it soon.

Google to announce Google TV

May 20th, 2010 by Sam Piroton No comments »

As we started the day, Vic Gundotra, VP of Google, announced that thursday’s keynote would be, let’s say, huge. When Vic says huge, we trust him. Last year, we had Google Wave; and a Android Phone.

This time, we have strong indication that Google plans to announce… Google TV. What it does mean exactly, we don’t know. But it will be revolutionnary (TV ad market is really important); it will also put under pressure the actual key players.

Here are some links to read:
USA Today – Google’s plan for…
Techcrunch – Proof that Google tv will make his debut

Here’s also a good indication that it is going to happen

Now, let’s see what happens tomorrow, and if it will be a worldwide launch. Let’s remember that Android Market place is not opened to paid apps in Belgium; and keep in mind that majors have deals in place with TV channels accross Europe.

Stay with us for more news tomorrow; and as we will still have Kyte with us for that keynote, some live action too!

Kyte Unwired Pro – first feedback

May 20th, 2010 by Sam Piroton No comments »

As Google I/O day 1 is now over, let’s take 5 minutes to talk about our experiment of the day. As you saw in a previous post, we are beta testing Kyte Unwired. We will do more of that tomorrow aswell. But let’s just say this: it’s really a great tool to use. On the go. Three steps: power ON, connect, play…and you’re all set; streaming live on the web! Incredibly easy.
Follow tomorrow, i think we’ll have good stuff to talk about!
