Webmission – I can haz succezz
May 21st, 2010Although our 2010 webmission is not over yet (and we’ll talk about this year-team next), 2 alumni’s have received great coverage these last couple of days.
Xavier Damman – Publitweet – has been in touch lately with Robert Scoble, one of the key bloggers in the valley. Robert uses Publitweet on his blog. Xavier and his associate have been interviewed for Building 43; here’s the vid.
Laurent Eschenauer, who launched the webmission last year, is now actively promoting is new baby OneSocialweb. What’s this? The idea is to try to federate social networks. Right now, if i’m on Facebook, and you are on Netlog or Hyves, we can’t get in touch, unless i register on these networks. That’s redundant, time consuming, and so… closed. What if thoses networks were interconnected? If they could exchange data? If my identity was recognized on all networks? That’s what Laurent is trying to do, with a bunch of other people. After promoting it in Europe, Laurent participated in some events here in the Valley aswell, and has received great press coverage. NPR (National Public Radio), ABCNews, Wall Street Journal and… Scoble himself too. That vid is not up yet, but it will be online soon.
So, as you can see, Belgians are doing great stuff, building out of their experience. Let’s try to keep this alive, and develop it together! Join the webmission spirit by following us here, on twitter or on our facebook page!
Tweetag visionnary – Twitter announced embeddable tweets
May 3rd, 2010Last year, i met Xavier Damman for the first time, when we were about to leave for the first webmission. Xavier is the man behind Tweetag. One of their features back then was called “twitter widget“, a great way to add a tweet on your website.
Today, Twitter announced that they would add a new feature, called embeddable tweets. This example is the Tweetag widget:
The lesson? We can see it from 2 angles: one belgian guy had this idea well before twitter itself; on the other hand, it stayed “under the radar” of the big guys in Silicon Valley.
It also demonstrate how important webmission are, bringing our talent in the US eco-system, under the eyes of american bloggers and companies. Awareness.
Webstartupday 2010 – Charleroi
April 28th, 2010Charleroi was the epicenter of the belgian web today. Startups presentations, startups Award, panels, networking events of Betagroup and Café Numérique. That was the program of the day. Members of the upcoming webmission were there to defend their startup; demo their tools.
TweetWallPro had various screens broadcasting its new product.
Beebole and Woorank were competing against each other for the Web Startup of the year award. And the 2010 winner, now Web Startup of the year, is Woorank, a brand new website analysis tool.
Beebole, TweetwallPro and Woorank… will all be with us in San Francisco, and will demo at SF NewTech. Watch out, bay area!
Belgian talents news – Google invests in Drupal
April 27th, 2010As a confirmation of something we already knew (talent exists in Belgium, and is recognised abroad), Google has decided to invest again in Drupal. Here’s Dries Buytaert’s tweet:
